Indoor Air Quality (IAQ), which is basically a measure of the contaminant content of the air in a given space, including bacteria, viruses, mold, fungi, algae, other microorganisms, odors, allergens and other particulate, has been a subject of some concern in the HVAC industry for several decades. However, due to the persistent world-wide decline of IAQ, it has not only become an urgent topic, but also a global health crisis. In fact, the EPA, CDC, WHO, OSHA, and other national and international health and safety organizations, have recently identified poor Indoor Air Quality as “One of the World’s Top Five Environmental Health Threats".
Equally concerning is numerous studies indicate that HVAC related pollution is responsible for an incredible 75% of all reported poor Indoor Air Quality problems.

- According to the EPA, the average American now spends 90% of their time indoors.
- Indoor air is, on average, 5-10 times, or 500% - 1000% more polluted than outdoor air.
- 50% of all diseases in the US are caused or aggravated by indoor air pollution.

Achieving and maintaining optimum IAQ in any building, is largely a matter of achieving and maintaining antimicrobial control in its HVAC system.
